Two Year Old Twins | Jessica Blaine Smith

Twins are one of my (two of my?!) most favourite things in this world. I just love them so I was super excited when I scheduled a documentary photography session, A Day in the Life of, with this Mama and her two year old twin boys, Harley and Walker. Beth-Anne is one of the most incredible people that I know. She’s strong, intelligent and no matter the situation she manages to find humour or something positive in it. I went to their house on Family Day and we spent the afternoon and into the evening together. We all know that two year olds are busy, so you can only imagine how a household runs when you have two of them! It is BUUUUUUSY! Any given activity to entertain the boys seems to last all of ten minutes before moving on to the next. We ran through her List o’ Fun pretty darn quick: from puzzles to painting to dancing to sliding to snacking to bath time to dinner time and then finally bedtime.  It was a heck of a lot of fun to capture. (And thank you to Auntie Beth who paid a visit to play and help out!)Two Year Old Twins | Jessica Blaine SmithTwo Year Old Twins | Jessica Blaine SmithTwo Year Old Twins | Jessica Blaine SmithTwo Year Old Twins | Jessica Blaine SmithTwo Year Old Twins | Jessica Blaine SmithTwo Year Old Twins | Jessica Blaine SmithTwo Year Old Twins | Jessica Blaine SmithTwo Year Old Twins | Jessica Blaine SmithTwo Year Old Twins | Jessica Blaine Smith

Growing Family Portrait | Jessica Blaine Smith

This is my fourteenth year as a professional photographer. Fourteen years. Where did the time go?! One of the aspects that I take pride in the most is my loyal clients who invite me into their lives throughout all of their milestones. It warms my heart and it reminds me just why I have dedicated my life to this photography thing. In December of 2012, Olivia and Symon got married. Their pugs – Elliot and Hamster – were a part of the celebration and their wedding was a whole lot of fun. Fast forward to February 2017 where we meet again, at the hotel where they got ready for their wedding, pugs and seven month old Marlowe in tow. We did some photos at the hotel, before heading out to replicate a couple of their wedding portraits. Growing Families. I just love them.

Documentary Family Portrait

When I began talking with the Pazos about documenting their family in a “A Day in the Life of” series, it was immediately decided that a Sunday afternoon would be the day to do it. Sundays are a special day in the Pazos household. They are all about family and are made even more special by having the grandparents for dinner. It is the boys most favourite day of the week. Growing up in a house with two sisters, I have always been fascinated by brothers. The Pazos boys were a ton of fun to document and I was able to capture all of their emotions – happy one moment, frustrated the next – and all of their outfit changes – pantless, Paw Patrol, winter gear indoors to pantless again. The day included jumping on the bed, helping with dinner, colouring, practising their letters, dressing up, lots of cuddles, running around, bath time, story reading and maybe a time-out or two. Looking back at these images of this day make my heart melt. This is real life and all of it’s most beautiful moments captured.Documentary Family PortraitDocumentary Family PortraitDocumentary Family PortraitDocumentary Family PortraitDocumentary Family PortraitDocumentary Family PortraitDocumentary Family PortraitDocumentary Family PortraitDocumentary Family Portrait

Winter Toronto Island Engagement

When I scheduled Alison and Jack’s engagement session a few weeks ago, I had to be realistic with them about the weather. For their session, they wanted a wintery one on Toronto Island. This all sounded super dreamy but given that winter has not been a typical one here in Toronto, I wasn’t sure that we would have snow. But over the weekend, we finally got the most beautiful dump of snow and it has lasted! On Tuesday, which just happened to be Valentine’s Day, the three of us and their dog Luna headed to the Island. The sun was out, the snow was fluffy and we had a ton of fun. Alison and Jack have a really great story of how they came to be and I cannot wait until their wedding when we get to celebrate the next step in their lives together.

A Day in the Life of Lennox

If you are an oldest child in your family and have younger siblings, there was once a time when you were an only child. Think about that for a moment. For maybe a year or two (or five!) where it was just you and your parents. Then maybe a little brother or sister came along and your life was forever changed. I remember when one of my best friends was pregnant with her second child and she told me that she was almost mourning for her daughter, knowing that her life, who she would grow up to be, would be altered by this extra human. And it’s not to say that that alteration is a negative thing, it just makes everything different. I am the eldest of three daughters so there was a time when I was an only child. How different would I have been had things stayed that way? I can tell you that my life would had definitely been less rich and abundant than it is now. Two and a half year old Lennox is currently riding that “only child” wave. In a few months, he will have a baby sister. In the meantime, my camera and I visited him to document this life of their family of three. A Day in the life of Lennox and what a great day that was.
