Spring Portrait Party Photos!

Spring Portrait | Jessica Blaine Smith

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen me working on these tissue paper flowers. I got crafty one night and created this cute backdrop for my recent Spring Portrait Party. I love the way that it turned out and I’m pretty sure that my clients did too! Here are some of my favourite images from that day. Portrait Parties are a great and easy way to get some photos of your kids and the entire family. Stay tuned for future Portrait Parties and if you really want to stay in the know, send me an email and I will be sure to add you to my next eNewsletter.Spring Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithSpring Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithSpring Portrait | Jessica Blaine Smith

Wedding | Marianne & Geoff | Archeo, Distillery District, Toronto

Archeo Wedding | Jessica Blaine Smith
Holy heck, I am excited to share photos from Marianne and Geoff’s wedding! There are about a million and one things that I could write about this awesome day – but for the most part, I will let the images speak for themselves.

You may recognise Geoff not because he may look like a certain celebrity but because I photographed his twin brother, Andy’s wedding in 2012. Not only are the guys twins, but Marianne has her own twin sister Catherine! The forecast for the wedding was 80% showers all day. I always tell my clients to not worry about the weather because it usually always works out and May 3rd was no different: while it rained a bit, we did have some breaks in the weather where we could safely go outside. Even still, we had to take full advantage of the colourful umbrellas that they has bought just in case we needed them. We started the day at the Hilton Downtown to photograph them getting ready and to document Marianne and Geoff’s “first look” before heading to the Distillery District. Their ceremony and reception took place at one of my most favourite venues in the city: Archeo. I love photographing here. Becky of Blush & Bloom worked her wonderful magic not only on the incredible bouquets but also on the decor for the room. It was seriously breathtaking. Marianne’s talented Mom made the decadent four layer cake. I love personal touches like that. Marianne and Geoff are big softies and the entire day involved a lot of tear. During their final speeches, Geoff jokingly said “If you are tired of watching a grown man cry, I suggest you turn and face the other side of the room because I am not stopping.” I loved it. Congratulations Marianne & Geoff! You are an awesome couple and I am so thankful that you chose me to document such a big day in your life.

I couldn’t resist getting a photo with both couples whose wedding I have photographed. Can I say that I have the best job around?!

Family Portraits at Home | And then they were five…

Family Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithYou probably recognise this awesome family because they are one of my favourites and I photograph them a lot! The last time that I photographed them was about a year ago. Not only have Phoenix and London grown a tonne since the last time that I saw them but they now have a baby brother! This portrait session took place at their home when Mikai was a mere ten days old. I love the moments that were captured between them together as a family of five and I cannot wait to see just who this new li’l man is going to become.Family Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine Smith

Family Portraits | Taryn, Syx & their girls | Queen Elizabeth Park, Vancouver, BC

Family Portrait | Jessica Blaine Smith

It’s always a bit nerve-wracking when you are a photographer who is about to photograph other photographers. They know  what you’re doing (or not doing) and they already have an idea of what they like when it comes to their photos. During my recent visit to British Columbia, we made plans to meet up with fellow photographer friends Syx and Taryn. When making plans, I asked Taryn if she would also want to do a family portrait session and she basically replied, “heck yes!” I can imagine that since both of them are photographers, they are rarely ever together in a photos with their two daughters. We made plans to meet at Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver where there were cherry blossoms and a great view of the gorgeous mountains. This session was a lot of fun! I loved capturing the big personalities of the girls. Family Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithFamily Portrait | Jessica Blaine Smith

Family Portraits | Liz & Her Boys | Victoria, British Columbia

Family Portraits | Jessica Blaine Smith

Liz and I studied photography at Ryerson together. She is a talented photographer. Over the years, we have always kept in touch even though she had moved to New York after university and now resides in Victoria. On my recent trip to British Columbia, we met up Liz and her two boys. We first had brunch before hitting the beach for some family portraits. As a photographer, you are often rarely in actual photographs so I was happy to capture these special moments for her. The next time I am in Victoria, we are definitely going to do another session to include her husband who was traveling for work when I visited. Henry is a spunky 3 1/2 year old who is already a great big brother to five month old Beau. I cannot wait to continue watching them grow.

Help this family get an 8×10 print of their favourite photo from the session. It’s easy – they just need to receive fifteen individual comments on this blog post.
